I remember quite awhile ago feeling a little bit of panic on realizing that Connor & Nora wouldn’t continue to sit side by side in the recliner as part of their daily routine. I felt an urgency that I should take ‘one last picture’ of them sharing their favorite spot, knowing that soon they just wouldn’t fit. I had to take a photo back then. Just in case it was the last time.
And yet, the tradition lives on. They have found a new way to make it work, a little different way to fit.
Last week, they were listening to The Penderwicks on Gardam Street (again), fully absorbed in all its wonderful prose. I had to take a picture.
You know, just in case.
Because eventually, there is going to be a last time.
And when that happens, I want to remember.
“…and although this was the fourth time Jane had read the book, she was excited to read what came next. This is what made a book great, she thought, that you could read it over and over and never get tired of it.”
-Jeanne Birdsall, from The Penderwicks
Brad Eisenmann - How poignant! “The tradition lives on…they just found a little different way to fit.”
Cheryl - I miss seeing them. Hopefully in the next few days!! Cute picture!
Jeff - Very poignant, in so many ways…
holly - This made me a bit sad just because now we have a ‘big one’ and a ‘little one’; the little one makes me realize how fast the big one grew, how soon he will be her size, and how soon neither of them will fit in the recliner with me!
