Betsy Jo Photography Blog bio picture
  • WELCOME!

Thanks for stopping by! I'm Betsy, and I like taking pictures-- of people, most of all. I'm wife to Paul and mother to Joel, Nora and Connor. They are my favorite subjects. I'm a Special Care nurse by day, a knitter and reader by night. I love New England, and Cape Cod most of all.

I am available for some limited travel, especially if it's to Ireland or some other lovely clime.

Wanna' get in front of my camera? Get in touch and we'll set up a session!

Another little look-

I am still post-processing all of the beautiful images from this friendship session, but when I came across this one, I had to put it up. Now.

On my way to our shoot location, it was pouring during a long-lasting thunderstorm. We decided to still go ahead with the session, though. (Thankful for willing clients!) By the time we were all set up and ready to go, this is what we got. ‘Worth waiting for, no?

*Oh, and don’t forget to enter the contest*

Sneak Peek – Friendship

I know this image is such a teaser, but it made me happy. Many more to debut…

“Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow them.”

-Louisa May Alcott, author of the beloved ‘Little Women’

Aftermath: (n) something that results or follows from an event, esp. one of an unfortunate nature.

This is Cape Cod.

Right after a thunderstorm.

I like the craggy posts.

I like the sway of the rope.

I like the almost invisible ocean.

I like the thick feel of the air.

I like the mist.

And I love the man who is walking in it.

“A low line of shore was visible at first on the right between the movement of the waves and fog, but when we came further it was lost sight of, and nothing could be seen but the mist curling in the rigging, and a small circle of foam.

-John Millington Synge, Irish poet and author from Rathfarnham, County Dublin
(1871-1909)

Fun Little Contest:

*So, in this post I asked if anyone knew the location of the lighthouse in that picture. What I didn’t tell my blog readers is that whoever can tell me the (exact) location and name of that lighthouse wins that picture in an 8×12 frame-quality print. To be fair, please email your (one & only) guess to me (betsyphoto1@gmail.com), so that everyone gets a turn without seeing prior answers. I will announce the winner on Friday, July 31st. Happy Researching!

The Cape

*Can anyone name this lighthouse and its location?*

“I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky; and all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.”

-John E. Masefield, English write and poet laureate (1878-1967)

Day 91

Someone has asked where my ‘Day’ posts are. (This one’s for you, B!;)I’m still doing my year-long photo project, but haven’t posted one in awhile. So, here’s a favorite from my collection:

I have boys. And they leave things in their pockets. And when I find little unexpected treasures like this, it makes my heart full.

*I am going to be away, and will have limited email access, or maybe none at all– (if I leave my laptop behind! :). Feel free to send me a message, but be aware that email response and order fulfillment will be delayed. Thank you!* -Betsy

In stray gifts to be claimed by whoever shall find.”

~William Wordsworth, 1806
