Betsy Jo Photography Blog bio picture

Thanks for stopping by! I'm Betsy, and I like taking pictures-- of people, most of all. I'm wife to Paul and mother to Joel, Nora and Connor. They are my favorite subjects. I'm a Special Care nurse by day, a knitter and reader by night. I love New England, and Cape Cod most of all.

I am available for some limited travel, especially if it's to Ireland or some other lovely clime.

Wanna' get in front of my camera? Get in touch and we'll set up a session!

Kayla & Brian. Wedding.

This day. These two. Full of appreciation for everyone around them, filled with the love of family. Kayla is dear to me, a friend for a lifetime, this one. And to see her smile and soak in the day with this man who loves her completely was a privilege.
Brian and Kayla are classic, unpretentious and kind. They love their family, their friends, the history that made them who they are. They love home and closeness and the selfless things that matter. And on their wedding day, it showed. Kayla wore her mom’s vintage wedding dress, had the reception at her childhood home, surrounded by all that was familiar and good.
Kay and Brian, I don’t have the right words to say how happy we are for you, how we wish for you so many wonderful and beautiful things. We all love you, and wish you many happy blessings, always!

Jen & Phil. Just Because.

If you know these two, you can’t help but smile when you see them. There’s a kinship there that makes you feel like fast friends just upon saying hello.

You know how your life intersects with someone at a crucial moment and you never, ever forget that part of them? Jen is one of those people for me. We rarely talk about it, and I probably haven’t really told her how much it meant to me that day. It is so clear in my mind, her smile walking into the room as I stood alone in trepidation and plenty of fear. She held my gaze as I asked her jumbled questions and shared my fear in a lonely hospital room. She told me how it all went, that she took care of him, that she asked to be there when I couldn’t be. She stood at his side the whole time, and knowing she was there made all the difference as I waited. I will long remember that. She’s one who is behind-the-scenes, quiet, and kind, not seeking recognition. People can sometimes forget the ones who aren’t at the forefront, the surgical techs, the aides, the ones who assist and watch, who stand in courage through the adversity they see. We don’t always remember the ones who are sometimes nameless, who help without being known. But I won’t forget that about Jen. Ever.

I got to photograph these two on their wedding day, and when Jen emailed about doing another session, I jumped at the chance. It’s so good to see them in front of the camera a few years later, those huge smiles still in place, their happy laughter right at home with each other.

Jayme - Such beautiful pictures and words. Special couple. Love them.

Megan, Class of 2015.

I knew it would be a great session when Megan emailed what she was looking for,and mentioned little photography terms that only an artist would use. We had such fun running around town, finding pretty pockets of light and beautiful fall colors.

Megan, happy senior year to you! Thanks for having me take your photos- all the best in the year ahead!!

Family of 3.

You know what was the most obvious take-away from this photo shoot? Not the beautiful light we were soaked with, or the perfect smiles and happy eyes. All of that is nice, yes. But what is most evident? That this little blue-eyed boy is loved. So, so loved.

Lindsey, Brian, and Grayson. Family.

And again.

I just love photographing this crew, over and over. Every time, the kids are perfect. They laugh and run and smile and know what it means to feel secure and loved. Every time, J & M trust me with whatever I suggest. We always shoot at their home, and it’s relaxed and easy-going. Every time, I leave with a huge smile, knowing it’s a privilege to see those two little love bugs with the big brown eyes growing up so, so quickly.

J, M, J & M, thanks for having me take your photos again, and again and again. You leave me with a full heart.
