Betsy Jo Photography Blog bio picture

Thanks for stopping by! I'm Betsy, and I like taking pictures-- of people, most of all. I'm wife to Paul and mother to Joel, Nora and Connor. They are my favorite subjects. I'm a Special Care nurse by day, a knitter and reader by night. I love New England, and Cape Cod most of all.

I am available for some limited travel, especially if it's to Ireland or some other lovely clime.

Wanna' get in front of my camera? Get in touch and we'll set up a session!

Baby Ryan & his Mom and Dad

To say that this boy was  a little love would be such an understatement. He was alert and sweet and calm for the duration of the shoot, taking it all in and learning what love feels like. He is a gem, and his parents just happen to be too.

Of these 6.

Sometimes the things closest to your heart are the most difficult to put into adequate words.

I love these kids. Really, really love them. And every time I get to photograph them, it makes my heart squeeze a little, to see the passing of time, to feel the memory-soaked laughter of these 6. So, so many memories over a decade and a half. Even that’s hard to believe, that passing of that many days. Each time I do their photos, it’s not about perfect pictures, but another memory made. It’s always laid-back, they’re happy and smiling, and we just do our thing. Oftener than not, we end with a run for ice cream, piling into two or three cars, calling Paul and the kids to join us. I hope they remember this, the spontaneity of being young, the closeness of friendship, and the love we have for every single one of them.

This is Samantha, Elsa, Lois, Owen, Maddie, and Tucker. Constantly growing up. And always, always loved.

These 4.

There’s something about this crew. Valentina and David are a total joy to photograph. There’s something about the way they love each other, how they lean in to their Mom and Dad, and just show contentment. They are full of personality, but also responsibility and obedience. They’re spunky and cute and just plain fun.

I get to work with Renata, and last night I was telling her about this one image of Valentina. There’s just something about her expression. I love it.

And then, there’s David. Full of spunk, all boy, and he knows just how to melt his mom’s heart:

Thank you, Renata. I loved photographing all of you. Let’s do it again, k?

Rachel and Jesse. Wed.

Theirs was a day of easy, carefree enjoyment. Which belied the fact that such extraordinary physical work had gone into their wedding. The venue was Rachel and Jesse’s beautiful home, set on a pretty piece of land in Brooklyn, CT. But mere months ago, it was reported to be anything but beautiful. They cut down trees and built walls, scrubbed floors, painted, installed plumbing, hung drywall, ran electricity, and so much more. Intense planning, concentration and patience went into building the space, working together with the help of a slew of friends and family. It could have made for a stressful event if it all didn’t come together. But on their wedding day, they moved with complete appreciation and relaxation through every moment. From getting ready, to the ceremony, on to the reception, and right down to the last firework, they beamed. It had all come together, the start of something so good. And whatever comes, it is obvious to all who surround these two- They will face the future with hard work and a whole lot of love, both for each other and everyone around them.

Rachel and Jesse, wishing you so many, many blessings.
