Friday Favorite.

Before I start this ‘Friday Favorite’ post, I have to apologize to all my readers who don’t live in CT. Because it’s really not fair that you can’t visit this little diner. It’s that good– a state icon of timeless, delicious food mixed with a kitschy, outdated atmosphere. To go there is to eat some of the most unique, consistent diner fare around. Their cheeseburgers? Delectable. The chocolate malt shake? Like no other. And the cole slaw? Oh, the cole slaw. It’s almost as good as my Grandma Ryan’s. And I hear their pumpkin ice cream is top-notch. Really, it doesn’t get much better than Shady Glen if you’re looking for unhealthy, American eating at its pinnacle. Which is why it’s good that we only go once or twice a year.

Paul was gone last week on a trip for 5 days, and the boys and I took a little ride over to Manchester when Nora was busy at Grandma’s house. We enjoyed our ‘lunch/supper’ to the fullest. Because where else can you get crispy cheese on your burger?

Or a one-size-only chocolate malt shake that fills three glasses? (I’ll admit that sometimes I take pictures of Connor because of his eyelashes. There. I said it.)

Joel agreed. It was worth the drive. (Can’t you just hear the slurp of that straw? Yup. Me, too.)

Go. Enjoy.

Sandy Schneider - So we’re not the only ones that love Shady Glen. Sometimes when we’re in CT ~ we just HAVE to go for old times sake (also the awesome cheeseburgers) and that was the case just a few days ago!
Love it and their minestrone soup hasn’t changed one iota in so many years. Great pics as usual, Betsy. Waiting to see the wedding ones . . . . that was one happy bride and groom! ;^)
