We got home Saturday from an excursion to one of our very favorite places.
It was really, really wonderful.
Happy.
Like coming home.
So many photos to share here.
Soon.
But for now, I’m reliving the memories, and smiling at moments like this.

I so can’t wait for our trip this summer. This weather we are having is just making it all the more that I am aching to go! Glad you all had nice weather.
Lovely photography!!! I found your blog from Lucia Etc!
Lucia from “Lucia, Etc.” sent me!

If someone had told me I’d spend a good part of my Spring Break knitting, I would have shaken my head in skepticism.

If someone told me I’d be knitting miniature owls for fun, I probably would have rolled my eyes. And shaken my head in skepticism.
Like any middle child, I blame it on my 4 sisters.
Really.

Whooo knew?
I’m afraid to admit it, but I am officially a groupie.
You know those people who faithfully follow a band and wait each year to see where they will be, when they will play, what their schedule is? The people who continuously refresh a band’s web page to see if it’s been posted yet?
Ahem.
I’m afraid I’m a groupie.
I keep checking this blog to see when their next pattern is coming out.
Not kidding.
My needles are ready, the yarn is bought.
The cables are practiced.
I even know the name and general plan for the thing.
I’m a groupie.
It’s eye-rollingly funny.
Does it make it any less pathetic if they’re my sisters?

I’ll take one of those owls, Betsy. It’s our school mascot!
It’s your lucky day! Pattern now available
Thanks for taking the N&K shots. I love em.
Thanks Betsy! The owl is adorable!
Isn’t it wonderful that kids grow up and actually “like” each other? I will never cease to be amazed! I really like that owl and I hinted (actually, I think I outright asked) to Joel that he could make me one on his trip this weekend. Time will tell!
That little owl is adorable
Oh MOM we always liked each other!
Love the owl!
Very cute.

CUTE! Your sisters are adorable. And that owl?? KNITTED?? It’s amazing. I’m loving that!

I like being mom to an 8-year-old boy.
He builds forts from broken pine trees, and spies on everyone in sight.
He still wakes up with a big smile, and comes downstairs quietly, walking up behind us with a hug.
He loves to line up his toys with the plan in his imagination, laying flat on the wood floor, whispering the dialogue as he plays.
He’s kind and so quiet and knows just what he thinks and wants. He’s so, so stubborn. Don’t get in his way when he’s in that place. He’s dreaming, with plans at the ready.
He sits and draws quietly, for long lengths of time, detail upon detail being rehearsed and erased and re-set on the page. I ask him why he keeps editing. And he tells me ‘it has to look the same on my paper as it does in my mind.’
I love this sweet boy of ours. We wait to see what he will do, where he will go, who he will be.
I think the future will be a challenge, for both him and his parents. I think it will be a path filled with obstacles and plans, and I hope someday, dreams fulfilled.

Funny thing. I was just thinking about Conner today. And how thankful I am that he is a friend to my boy. When my Riley starts to worry how it will be when we move, I always remind him of the friends he already has in CT. His eyes light up and he says “Like Conner?” And then all is right and good in his heart.
These gave me the goosebumps. Love the black and whites, and how you photographed his figurines lined up in the sun.
Some things bear repeating. Revisiting. Renewing.
Some of these images may have been shared here already. But they evoke happy memories and the feeling of warmth from the sun. They bring happiness, because of the light and the color, because of the blue water and the ethereal sweep of the sand. They bring back the reality of the beauty of our favorite place. More than all of that, they bring happiness because of who I see in these photos. A collection of some of the many people I love most in this world.
Some things just bear repeating.

Love to be there!
Hmmm… I am sure your whole family would love it. Hope all is well up in the North!
Wow. Can we crash at your beach for awhile? It looks so perfect and {romantic} !! Gasp! Did I just say that?
As you know Betsy, I love these pictures, but in some of them we look like we are in a teeth whitening commercial.
Well, Mom, it’s better than being the ‘before’ picture in a teeth-whitening ad!
awww love these pictures
DREAM-Y.

So, this dessert is good. Really good. As in, your sister-in-law’s mother makes it for your niece’s birthday about 5 or 6 (?) years ago, and you remember your first bite from that birthday party. Yup.
So when Christmas came this past year and Kelly asked what we should do for dessert, I think I blurted out this request before she finished her sentence. And when Christmas dinner arrived, I went up for seconds of Bonnie’s cake afterwards. Seconds. Of dessert. Embarrassing. (I like chocolate.)
It’s a fancy-looking little treat, but really isn’t that hard at all. I’m sharing it here because you really have to try it. Please? It will make you happy.
The original recipe calls for just plain (or raspberry flavored) whipped cream in the middle, but I added semi-sweet chocolate shavings to one of them, and made peppermint-flavored cream for the other, mixed in with chopped Andes candies. It was fun to change things up and quite yummy- but the original? Just as good.
Add some homemade chocolate sauce and maybe some vanilla ice cream and then eat it.
I have a feeling you’ll remember it long after that last bite.

Here’s the recipe link, with a helpful video tutorial:
Joy of Baking Chocolate Sponge Cake
(You may want to stabilize the whipped cream.)
Enjoy!

It IS delicious! Actually, can you bring this on Sunday instead of the sour cream and salsa?!? Sometimes it doesn’t pay to tell all your secrets!
Oh, boy. Me and my big mouth…
Sure, Katie! I would be happy to. I will try to refrain from taking seconds this time.
What a nice compliment. Yours is absolute perfection!
Oh, does that ever look yummy. Thanks for the recipe.
P.S. Your new banner looks great!
